On Wednesday August 4 a domestic violence incident took place in Romford that saw a woman strangled and sexually assaulted and four police officers assaulted in the process of detaining the male.

The victim had feared for her safety when she attempted to leave the house and was then strangled and sexually assaulted by the suspect.

Two officers were then assaulted as the suspect was led to the police van.

He was taken to Queen’s hospital where officers had to guard him due to his erratic behaviour-a mental health assessment was undertaken.

Whilst at the hospital the male became animated once again and required restraint. It was at this point he directly spat at one officer and then headbutted him and further proceeded to assault another officer trying to restrain him.

For people questioning why it can take so many officers to restrain one individual, these are some of the reasons why.

Many officers are also used for hospital guard duties, meaning less officers out on the streets.

This is just a small insight into how difficult it is being a police officer across London today and for the record- it is not acceptable to assault a police officer.
