Flat fire in Romford under control-road closures remain in place.

Five square metres of decking on the roof of a building has been damaged following a fire at a building in Romford this afternoon but thankfully nobody has been injured.

Firefighters tackled the blaze at a block of flats on St Edwards Way.

Around 5sqm of decking on the roof of a five storey block was damaged by the fire and around 20 residents left the building before the Brigade arrived. There were no reports of any injuries.

The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers took 30 calls to the blaze.

The Brigade was called at 14:05 and the fire was under control by 15:52. Three fire engines and around 15 firefighters from Romford, Hainault and Bethnal Green fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Road closures remain in place.
