‘Fire and flooding are two symptoms of climate change.’

Havering’s Labour Councillors send out their thoughts to all those impacted by the Wennington fire and today write in the Havering Daily.

After the tragic events of July 19th, the Labour Group’s thoughts are with the residents of Wennington.

All parties will now be jumping on the climate change bandwagon and we also cannot ignore the flooding that has repeatedly impacted residents across Havering. The Labour Party nationally and locally have a longstanding commitment not only to mitigate the impact of these unforeseeable events, but to develop policies that will improve the lives of Havering residents.

Fire and flooding are acute symptoms of climate change. While many in the Council and wider community will be searching for innovative new measures, there are several courses which have been neglected in recent years. Keeping our drains and gullies clear and maintaining access to hydrants are just two examples. These would give our infrastructure and first responders more of a chance in emergencies and improve quality of life for residents.

We can use our existing open spaces more effectively to deal with the impact of excess rainfall, landscaping them with firebreaks and fire-smart plants. This policy should be extended to encourage private landowners in the agricultural and industrial sectors to provide better fire and flood protection near homes and other buildings. We must also bear in mind our commitments to biodiversity as part of the wider climate change approach.

It is vital that we remember, as much as we do to lessen the probability and impact of these events, we will always at some point end up with people in emergency situations. Ourresponse, both material and compassionate, must be immediate and thorough.

Labour Group Leader and Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Keith Darvill told the Havering Daily: “The events of the last week and past two years show the need for greater resilience within Havering to protect residents against the impact of fire and flood. The climate change plan needs improving as a matter of urgency. The agenda of activity within the Council needs to be expedited. The Labour Group are working to ensure the residents of Havering have the protections and services they need.”

Its an elementary fallacy that human activity determines climate but even if it did, life on earth prefers a warmer climate and it reduces heating bills.

Its a fallacy as naturally occurring and variable carbon dioxide is essential to life on earth and only makes up 0.04% of the atmosphere with man made emissions only 0.0012% of the atmosphere and easily eclipsed by natural variations in carbon dioxide.

And yet the fallacy is promoted by a range of powerful Big State corporate communist, interests and fake environmentalists to rob and enslave humanity in the name of saving the planet.

This is because if you blame humans, its an excuse to control human behaviour, but if you blame natural causes, e.g. the Sun, there’s nothing for it but to prepare for changes in climate, which is how humanity has survived and prospered throughout the ages.

Cllr Darvill recognises this by promoting some practical maintenance ideas to mitigate changes in climate, whereas Climate Jehovah’s want to declare “climate emergencies”, kill the economy with with murderous “net-zero” targets and ban cars.

    Wennington Village

Whilst I commend the council, emergency services and community response to the tragic events in Wennington Village, its irresponsible for some to blame the many fires on man made climate change as fires start by accident or design. I.e. they don’t suddenly start due to hot weather.

Its irresponsible because the Fire Brigade’s official figures show fires in London have been declining and because climate alarmism diverts attention away from the true origins of the fires and emergency service resources, safety measures and policies needed to prevent future fires.

    https://data.london.gov.uk/dataset/london-fire-brigade-incident-records

Hence an investigation into the actual origins of all the fires is needed as its a cruel irony Wennington Village burned despite being home to the Wennington Fire station, whose fire engines had been sent to Upminster, requiring Wennington to await fire engines from Orpington, Kent!
