Brave officers rush in to evacuate building following night time blaze that destroys large part of the roof.

Emergency Response B Team and Havering Joint Task Force officers discovered the fire on Mavis Grove in Hornchurch in the early hours of this morning and began evacuating around sixty residents.

The flat occupiers were safely removed however, five officers and two members of the public were taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

The officers have now been released.

London Fire Brigade officers remain on scene conducting an investigation and a police cordon remains in place.

London Ambulance and Havering Council officers are also there to assist displaced residents.

Thank you to our emergency service workers who are out and about doing a difficult job wearing full uniforms in these extreme heat conditions.
