After a year of being away from their home, Laurel and Hardy have returned. The couple were stolen from outside their home on Noak Hill on July 22 last year leaving their owner Lesley heartbroken. Now thanks to East Area police officers who recovered them from a garage where they had been hiding covered in cob webs, the couple have returned to Noak Hill.

Owner Lesley who is a much loved member of our community, told the Havering Daily: “A police officer called me and asked me to describe them and then told me that she was standing beside them. They were packed into the back of a police van and returned to us.

“I am so happy, I really thought that after all this time they had been smashed up and that we would never see them again.”

The pair made the headlines last year after a £10,000 reward was being offered by the Chigwell Group for information that would lead to their recovery.

“Apart from lots of cobwebs they are in good condition. They have been kept in somebody’s garage and discovered by police officers.

“We are all completely shocked but so glad that they are back home with us. Now they are going to be cemented into the ground to stop them from being stolen again.

“I am very grateful to the police for bringing them home.”

Relative Graham Cox told the Havering Daily: “impressive police work at a time when the police service is coming under constant fire i think we should pause a while and appreciate what they do.

“Hats off to you guys and thank you.”
