The message to London Mayor Sadiq Khan on the expansion of the Ultra Low Emission Zone to Havering was a definite NO from every councillor in the borough.

At full council meeting last night (Wednesday July 13) every Havering Councillor voted against the proposed ULEZ expansion.

A formal response had already been organised by Havering’s administration prior to yesterday’s meeting to the Mayor’s consultation with evidence as to why Havering will be disproportionally affected.

Deputy Leader of the Council, Councillor Gillian Ford said:

“The Administration will work with other boroughs to oppose the proposal and to lobby MPs, GLA and Ministers in the strongest pf terms.

“The council is fully aware of the climate pressures and the Administration have a Climate Cabinet Member leading on this. ULEZ doesn’t identify how transport networks will be improved or funded in Havering and there are no details on scrappage schemes for residents during the cost of living crisis.”

The Havering Daily is holding a ULEZ Consultation in the following weeks. This will be a chance for you to raise your concerns with councillors. More information can be found here:

If our Mayor is so deeply concerned about the air we are breathing I would ask our local administration to raise with him the issue of Launders Lane and the health hazard this has become ..He if anyone should have the powers to get this addressed.let’s see how keen he is to do so .. but wait no revenue to be made . These scams not about air quality just a wolf I sheep’s clothing to hit your pocket.

Consultation in Rainham? Oh I live in Cranham. No direct transport so will take me over an hour on the bus. 20 mins by car but my car is petrol and not good for the environment. It takes my daughter 1.30 hours to visit her father in sheltered accommodation from our house using public transport. 10 minutes in the car down the A127. I work odd hours at night at Romford Mail Centre. No night buses to Cranham and a very scary walk to the bus stop anyway when it is dark. I live in a Council House. No electric charging points even if i could afford an electric car plus no driveway and no charging points at my work. ULEZ would mean I cant afford my car so I cant get to work because of lack of public transport and I would have to get taxis which would take a large proportion of my wages. Please can the major of london advise me how i can work and keep a roof over my families head with ULEZ????

This is all about trying to raise money because the Conservative government cut TFL’s funding.

The Mayor of London has no right whatsoever to charge all drivers in DGreater London, he has given no idea whatsoever how he would be able to indicate what vehicles are on the roads at any given time. Drivers are required to be insured, have taxed vehicles and have current licence. This is just this idiots way of trying to con drivers out of money he has no right to. Next election out on his ear.

We can’t afford to pollute London unless you can afford to pollute London
