EXCLUSIVE: ‘This situation is completely unacceptable’-Havering’s Council Leader to tackle ongoing Rainham fires.
Councillor Ray Morgon addresses Rainham fires after residents deal with years of problems.
The Launders Lane fire in Rainham is a serious concern for residents who live in the area. After years of suffering these fires that are practically daily, residents are now demanding this problem be dealt with after being ignored for the last ten years.
The Havering Daily has learnt that at the start of next month a meeting organised by the borough’s Chief Executive Andrew Blake will start to finally tackle this awful situation.
Havering’s Leader of the Council Councillor Ray Morgon told the Havering Daily:
“The situation is completely unacceptable and we are determined to solve this matter and find a solution. Following a letter from Jon Cruddas MP, Andrew Blake Herbert has organised a meeting next month to start to construct a plan to deal with these fires.
“We cannot continue this way, it is not right for our residents who are suffering. This problem has been ignored by the previous administration for many years but we are very active as a council and this first meeting we allow us to see what what can do collectively.
“I have been meeting with our Fire Borough Commander to discuss the issues on Launders Lane and I will be going there myself to see the problems first hand. I know there is a long history of issues that have been ignored for so many years by our last council.
“It is completely unacceptable for residents to have to put up with this and for our fire crews who have been called out seventy times. It is a waste of resources.”
Residents cannot open their windows in the nearby area due to smoke and fumes entering their properties and many are suffering breathing difficulties as a result of the ongoing fires.
Rainham ward Councillor Sue Ospreay told the Havering Daily:
“This problem has be going on for the last ten years and nothing has been done about it. All three of us councillors here in Rainham are doing the best we can to meet with residents and the land owner to find a solution to this problem.
“We need to get this solved now once and for all and stop the blame game. We have a serious problem here that needs to be addressed urgently and it is vital that we all come together as a borough and find a solution to this now.”
There is a feeling of anger amongst the local community that this problem has been ignored for so many years and just left to literally burn. The community is fed up with the constant fires burning and the toxic fumes they are emitting.
South Hornchurch Councillor Graham Williamson told the Havering Daily:
“This problem has been going on for years and our previous administration were clearly unable to solve it. We are are addressing it now and hopefully can find a solution to it by working together.”
