An area of grassland in Rainham was alight yesterday (Thursday 7 July) afternoon sparking more concerns from residents who are already used to dealing with the Launders Lane fire.

The area of grass spanning 400 metres by 400 metres was alight with smoke billowing across the Rainham sky that could be seen in Hornchurch and Upminster.

Fire crews from Wennignton attended and used a hose reel and water back packs to put the fire out.

With temperatures set to rise for the next few weeks, locals are concerned about more ongoing fires in the area and the impact it will have on air quality.
