Anthony Millier today reviews the Brookside Theatre’s Sinders, the adult pantomime.

A pantomime is an unforgettable experience – an adult pantomime takes that experience to a whole new realm.Welcome to a world where the audience are actively encouraged to yell obscenities at characters on stage, and the beautiful, wholesome princess is spoken about in a way that it would make a sailor’s eyes water. It’s rude, certainly not for the faint hearted and I wouldn’t take my mother to see it but do you know what? We absolutely LOVED it! Oh yes we did!

Such was the fabulous ‘Sinders’ at Romford’s, Brookside Theatre. The show brought together some incredible local talent and with fantastic projections and costumes, a laugh-a-minute script, fun, frolics and the obligatory audience participation, the theatre pulled off a blinder.

The stand out star was the lovable Jason Thorpe who played the vulgar yet endearing Buttons with vim and the on-stage banter with the audience that you would expect from a seasoned stand-up comic. Also of meritwere the Prince played by David Olds and his Sidekick, Dandini played by Darrell Robert Williams whose vocals were outstanding and left the audience wishing he’d had a few more numbers to impress us with.

The lovely Sinders, played by Natasha Agius, maintained the only innocent(ish) aspect of the show which contrasted beautifully against her hilariously rotten ugly stepsisters, Fanni and Danni played by David Stone (who also wrote the brilliantly funny scriptand directed the show impeccably) and Jason Markham alongside the Wicked Stepmother, Sophie Mardell. Presided over by the foul-mouthed Fairy, played by Christina Metzger, the cast were bright, vibrant and engaging. I really have to give a special mention to the ‘genie-us’ behind the James Bond parody number!

All in all and incredible night a live entertainment, full of laughs from the preshow announcement to the unforgettable encore – one thing is for certain, the team at the Brookside Theatre seriously know how to entertain an audience.

Having witnessed a few adult pantos over the years’, I can honestly say that this has to be Essex’s favourite adult pantomime and I would seriously recommend booking for next years’ offering, Big Dick Whittington. Tickets are on sale now, online at www.brooksidetheatre.com or by telephone on 01708 755775.
