Fighting the Holodomor from getting to Havering.
Today our autistic Conservative Charlie Keeble writes on the importance of helping the Ukraine.
In 1932 Ukraine suffered a famine brought on by Russian leader Joseph Stalin when he plundered the country’s resources and brought them to Russia. Ukraine had been absorbed into the Soviet Union a decade earlier when the Red Army invaded and seized all the farms and industries from the country. This famine was man made and became known as the Holodomor and it killed millions of Ukrainians. Fast forward to 2022 and we have another Russian tyrant in Vladimir Putin attacking Ukraine to absorb it into a new Russian Empire. This time once again for the purposes of plundering Ukraine’s resources and industries, and not many people are aware of the implications of this invasion that affects us here in Havering.
Ukraine’s war with Russia is one of the major causes of the rise in fuel, food and energy prices. When the war began many people in Britain were oblivious to what this meant for them. What is it about Ukraine that Putin wants so badly that he is using to control the world’s economy? As it happens Ukraine is not a poor European country, it’s a resource rich nation. Their national flag represents a blue sky above a field of yellow sunflowers. Ukraine is the world’s biggest grower and cultivator of sunflowers for cooking oil and seeds. 43% to be precise, and it makes for Ukraine to be the biggest source of export farming to us. White fish like cod and haddock is also affected because Russia catches 45% of the world’s stock of white fish where they are a cold water species.
I think the effect of the war in Ukraine for it’s resources are what is being used to make the cost of living go up and if we don’t take action to stop Putin he will starve Europe and Britain. After all Ukraine is the breadbasket of Russia and Europe. It’s got the biggest arable land area in Europe with 25% of the world’s black soil by volume. It’s got the 2nd biggest barley production in the world and 4th in exports, 3rd largest producer of corn in the world, 4th largest producer of potatoes, 5th largest for rye production, 8th place for wheat exports, and 5th place in the world for bee production. Ukraine is our biggest European nation for agricultural needs.
Currently the Russian army has seized and controlled most of Ukraine’s seaports. The country is strategically placed to export what it makes from the Black Sea giving it an easy and conventional access to Europe and the British Isles. But now that they are blocked by Russian ships they are having to transport them across Europe by railways. As I write this Russian forces are in the middle of plundering Ukraine’s grain supplies from storage facilities in the east.
For the people of Havering it’s clear that for our import needs where needed, Ukraine’s survival is vital for us to keep our food and drink costs stable. Many Ukrainians are supportive of siding with the West and keeping away from Russian influences because of their tainted past with them. They don’t want to be the state of drudgery and servitude to an unfriendly nation that will make them a slave state again.
Now I can see that Ukraine also wants to join the European Union and yet I am a Brexiteer. But I don’t expect the EU to step in to support Ukraine militarily because many of their members like France and Germany have spent years appeasing Russia in return for cheap gas and coal. But some of their members have defied Putin like Poland, Sweden and Finland. Britain has also decided to stop being dependent on Russian reserves so we will have to put up with the inflated cost of energy for a while.
Which brings me to another of Ukraine’s rich resources: raw materials and energy supplies. The Ukrainian town of Chernobyl is synonymous with a nuclear explosion in 1986. Ukraine still has plenty of nuclear fuel that will be useful for a green revolution in Europe. It’s 1st in Europe for recoverable reserves of uranium ores, 2nd in Europe for titanium ore reserves, 2nd largest in the world for iron ore reserves, 3rd place in Europe for shale gas reserves and is 4th in the world for total value of natural resources.
Then there are several other things that Ukraine makes that are valuable to other kinds of people and enterprise. They are 1st in Europe for ammonia production used to make fertilisers for boosting farming production where it’s used as a nitrogen source for crops. Ukraine is also the 4th largest producer of rocket launchers that America buys for it’s space launch businesses, 10th largest producer of steel for manufacturing and infrastructure projects of which Britain is a customer, and the 4th largest exporter of titanium which is used to make jewellery, golf clubs, aerospace parts and artificial hips.
That seems more like a golden breadbasket to me and I believe Ukraine should be defended as much as we do for it’s refugees. Ukrainian independence is important to us and ourfor the survival of Europe. From what I have seen Russia become I would not be wanting to be friends with them in return for cheap fuel and energy. Britain needs to be self sufficient again in farming and energy production. If Ukraine falls to Russia then there will be another Holodomor and this time it will stretch out to Britain and Havering’s residents will be starved and impoverished.
The Holodomor is the least known holocaust of the 20thcentury. It went largely unknown in the West and it was ignored by the pro-socialist press who wanted to defend the USSR as a utopia for the common people. This time the press must listen to this and forget trivial matters like the Downing Street party scandal during the Covid lockdown. I find it irritating that the media is wasting itself on irrelevant and negative dull drama that makes people feel like they have no hope or any idea about how to save themselves.
So for the purposes of bringing down fuel costs we must continue to support Ukraine. We at the Havering Daily want to bring more positive and delightful stories to the public to feel good about the borough they live in. So I will be working to bring more positive stories to you. Here is one that I wanted to report to you here. To tell you about the value of Ukraine and to fight back against inflation by calling to arm Ukraine.
