Disabled woman left with used wet wipes and sewage flowing through her floor.
A resident of Orchard Village has been left with sewage flowing through her wet room floor after the stack pipe on the estate became blocked. Fiona, who is disabled has been clearing up sewage for a week and using her bathroom with wellies due to the stack pipe over flowing.
Fiona told the Havering Daily:”I noticed that my wet room floor had become flooded with people’s baby wipes and other such items that people have used.It has caused problems with the stack pipe and now it is over flowing in my bathroom.
“Every evening for a week, my wet room floor has become flooded. The water stinks badly and it is really unhealthy as it is people’s sewage.”
Fiona has been in contact with Clarion to get the situation resolved as soon as possible and her local councillors to get help.
She continued: “I don’t seem to be getting anywhere, it has been like this for a week. They were supposed to come and flush through the stack pipe to clear it and get it working properly, but so far nothing.
“I have to use my bathroom with boots as I don’t know what I’m walking through. It is really unhealthy to live like this.”
A spokesperson for Clarion Housing told the Havering Daily:
“Our contractor visited Ms Corbett’s property on the 14th May which was within 24 hours of receiving a report of a blockage in her bathroom drainage. They then began an investigation to identify the source of the blockage and they revisited the property several times to jet spray and monitor the drains to ensure the problem was completely resolved.
“We acknowledge the inconvenience this will have caused and we are pleased that the problem was fully resolved last Friday so that Ms Corbett can be comfortable in her home. We understand the cause of the problem was some residents putting non-flushable wet wipes down the toilet, so our housing team will write to all residents in the block to provide advice on the correct disposal of the wet wipes, to prevent the problem reoccurring.”
