Shambolic repair work on Mawney Close leaves residents in hazardous conditions.
A year after the Havering Daily covered this story, still nothing has been done for residents living on Mawney Close in Collier Row. The close has been subject of repair works that have left local residents furious at the shoddy way they have been done. Residents have put up with leaking guttering, tiles falling off the roof and lopsided chimneys.
Last year we reported how residents had undergone dreadful repair work and had not been informed about some of the work including one lady waking up to find a skip had been placed in her front drive without her even being told!
Now, a year later and still nothing has been done to repair this situation.
Angie who lives on Mawney Close told the Havering Daily:”The guttering work they have done is awful and leaks water, the new tiles they placed on the roof come off, the chimneys they were supposed to have fixed are all lopsided.
“The work is extremely shoddy and poor quality. They are repeatedly called back to fix things and then called back again as they don’t fix things correctly. Some residents even have to pay £22k for this terrible work. It is awful.”
Residents living on Mawney Close are furious at the substandard work that has been done by contractors hired by the council and have had very little communication with officers.
Angie continued:”The work has been awful. Recently I was sitting in my house when I heard a loud noise and then a crashing sound and went out to see what it was and realised that it was a tile that had come flying off the roof and smashing down on the floor. It landed on my neighbour’s front door step, she is a pensioner if she had been out during that time can you imagine what could have happened to her? The work here is hazardous and not safe.
“The roofs look crooked, people have experienced damp and birds getting in under the roof due to gaps left by builders. It is disgraceful.
“Now the nearby garages are going to be demolished and yet again we have had any notification of this, just a letter taped to a lamp post telling us that work is due to start soon. Everyone is so angry and fed up with this situation.”
