The Havering Daily is running a list of the different candidates across Havering in preparation for the local elections on May 5.

Today we meet Jane Keane, The Labour candidate for St.Alban’s ward.

My roots are in Romford. My great grandparents lived in St Alban’s ward. My father went to school at the little school in Park Lane. I have been working hard in the ward. I have transformed the corner of South Street/Brentwood Road with a garden at Saffron House, Labour HQ, that started in 2021. I initiated a campaign to have the Victoria Road Footpath made safer and will continue to work on this. I worked with a local resident to secure a new footpath for the local housing estate. I highlighted the inadequacy of the current ward councillors’ responses to the condition of a local landmark – the Durham Arms – which resulted in a clear up much to the relief of the neighbourhood. I have been gardening alongside the Friends of Park Lane Recreation Ground for the benefit of residents in St Alban’s ward.

When I am not in the ward, you might find me on the front desk of St Francis Hospice or singing with the St Francis Hospice Choir. I love singing with friends. I ran my own little community choir. I have always gotten immense pleasure from giving my time to support good causes and people.

I have a super relationship with Hope Mendy – the other Labour Candidate in St Alban’s ward. Together we make an unrivalled team. If I am voted in on May 5th, I will serve Romford residents as a Labour Councillor to the best of my ability. I want every Romford resident to live well, and I am prepared to dedicate my time and energy to achieving that aim.
