‘She was very kind and supportive of us’-bereaved mother thanks former Commissioner Cressida Dick for her support.
Sue Hedges and her family had their life torn apart when their son Ricky became another victim to knife crime. In 2019 Sue from Hornchurch, attended an event at New Scotland Yard where she met the then Commissioner Cressida Dick and has nothing but praise for her.
Sue told the Havering Daily:
“I really am fed up of hearing people blame everything on her. Yes, there were some decisions made that were wrong but for me she was very kind and supportive. I met her at a Crimestoppers event to do with knife crime and she came over to talk to me. She knew all about my son’s case and everything that had gone on. She was not only very kind, but very supportive to myself and my family. I have nothing but praise for her.”
Following Ricky’s murder in 2016, Sue and her family attend as many anti knife crime events as they can to share their horrific experiences in the hope that no other family goes through the horrors they have.
“I have been to City Hall but have never met Saqik Khan, he has never been to meet us or support us in any shape or form. I met Deputy Mayor Sophie Linden who I openly told my son was just another statistic for her, which she did not like. She said she would look into our case and support us and asked me to email her directly which I did. Three years on and I am still waiting for her reply.”
Sue and her family like many knife crime victims feel completely let down by those in authority.
“Not one has ever come out to support us. The police, especially our family liaison officers have been amazing and really supported us during the hardest of times, so I have a great deal of praise for them.”
