Manhunt launched after convicted Essex murderer absconds from prison.

A police manhunt was launched yesterday after a convicted murderer failed to return to HMP Leyhill in Gloucestershire. The 49 year old attended a Bristol police station but then failed to return to the open prison sparking a country wide manhunt.

Jason Mills is known to have links to Essex and police are appealing to the public to dial 999 if they see him and not approach him.

He was wearing a black Nike cap, black vest, blue coat, blue jeans and white Adidas trainers.

Mills was convicted of a domestic murder in 2001, has known links to Essex where the crime took place.
