Picking up for a Great British Spring Clean.
Havering Council is once again supporting this year’s Great British Spring Clean, by encouraging residents and schools to grab a litter picker and help clean up their communities
This year’s campaign, run by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, has the theme of One Bag, Big Difference, stating that even the smallest of actions, can help to keep communities cleaner and tidier.
Residents can borrow litter pickers, gloves, sack holders and waste bags from the Council by emailing environmental.maintenance@havering.gov.uk.
A maximum of 10 litter pickers can be borrowed per event.
Once a booking is confirmed, residents can collect the equipment from the Harrow Lodge Depot, Hornchurch Rd, RM11 1JU, between 9am and 3pm Monday to Friday.
Schools can request support for any clean up events they are looking to host and if they wish, to receive a visit from the Education Officer at Keep Britain Tidy for assemblies to talk about the campaign.
The Great British Spring Clean is an annual campaign and this year, runs until Sunday 10 April.
It brings together community organisations, individuals and schools, up and down the country, to make a pledge and take part in projects such as clearing up litter, tidying up and improving the look of their local areas and communities where they live or go to school.
Supporting projects such as the Great British Spring Clean is part of the work being carried out under the Council’s Climate Change Action Plan to build towards being a greener borough.
This is in addition to ongoing enforcement action for fly-tipping and littering. The Council is encouraging residents to continue to report this anti-social behaviour.
