A Romford resident who walks her dog at Raphael’s Park each day was saddened to see the small bridge near the Lakeview entrance left with screws sticking out and duct tape across the wooden poles. The lady, who did not wish to be named, was also upset to see the two beautiful carved pillars gone.

She told the Havering Daily:

“I use the small bridge everyday when I arrive to enter the park and was horrified and really upset to see the two carved pillars gone and all these screws sticking out and duct tape across the wooden poles. There were also rusty metal joints left open that were very dangerous.”

However, there is light at the end of the tunnel as the bridge that was due to be repaired last week but due to the storm and severe winds could not be repaired, is now going to be fixed starting next Monday and the pillars returned.

A spokesperson for Havering Council said:
“Unfortunately repair works on the bridge in Raphael Park were delayed in the aftermath of Storm Eunice, and will now take place on Monday 7 March – no work has taken place yet. The carved posts were removed so they wouldn’t be damaged, and will be returned once we have completed our repairs.”

Raphael’s is a much loved park here in Havering and very well used by most of the local community. It is also home to a great deal of wildlife. Hopefully next week everything will be returned back to normal.
