Romford Labour have today issued their statement on the situation in the Ukraine.

Our thoughts and solidarity are with the Ukrainian people first and foremost. People putting their children to bed tonight in bomb shelters and desperately scared about what the coming days and weeks will bring. Also our thoughts go out to Ukrainian and Russian people living here in the UK who will be watching events unfold and worrying about family and loved ones back home.
Russia’s attack on Ukraine is a brazen power grab by a Dictator who has been sewing seeds of misinformation, distrust and fear in readiness for this invasion for years. Anyone who believes in democracy must demand that everything possible is done to bring his assault on the people of Ukraine to an end.

Kier Starmer, Labour Leader has made Labour’s position clear, we must urgently reinforce and reassure our NATO allies in Eastern Europe. We must impose the he hardest possible sanctions against Putin’s regime, freezing its finances and crippling its ability to function. For too long our country has been a safe haven for Putin-linked money. The Government has not yet gone far enough with sanctions to break these links. Labour is calling on Boris Johnson to stand up to Putin and crack open the shell-companies where the money is hidden.
