Is now the time to be de-stabilising the Met Mr Khan?

Yesterday, Thursday 10 February London saw the Met Police Commissioner Cressida Dick step down from her role as the Met’s boss.

Despite the recent storms, the Commissioner fought on and most importantly had the backing of her officers and staff, most of whom respect her and the job she has done.

Called up by London’s Mayor, Ms Dick then stepped down stating that Sadiq Khan had given her a vote of no confidence. But why now Khan?

The Met is slowly rebuilding after a torrid year and has made progress in our communities with its Violence Against Women and Girl’s campaign. She has been an active Commissioner, frequently seen on our streets and campaigning for her officers.

For everyone knocking her and pleased that she is leaving her post, there are twice as many praising her and sad that she is now quitting.

Senior police leaders from a variety of different police forces have come out to support her and her work after four decades of serving as a police officer on our streets.

As the boss of the biggest police force in our country ultimately the responsibility lies with her and let’s face it there have been many things wrong of late that have surfaced. There are a core of officers whose thinking and behaviour is not acceptable and need to be removed, however there are equally many more who do an amazing job on our streets everyday.

The question still lies as to why Mr Khan has decided to give the Commissioner a vote of no confidence now?

In Havering and across parts of east London Mr Khan was not the choice for London Mayor, actually many in Havering have left us comments clearly stating that as the Commissioner opens the door to leave, perhaps Mr Khan can keep that door open and follow himself as well.

It would appear that in giving the Commissioner the vote of no confidence, you have clearly highlighted your own failings here and put yourself in a position where many are indeed questioning your own position as London Mayor.
