‘We are going to up our game even further and make it harder still for drug dealers to function here.’
Drugs Focus Desk Detective Sergeant Owen Morgan talks exclusively to the Havering Daily.
Det Sergeant Morgan is a man of his word. This time last year, the Havering Daily spoke with Sergeant Morgan about his aims and plans for the year and how his main focus was to rid the East Area streets of as much drugs as he possible could. Well, he has removed £3 million worth of drugs, collected firearms, knives and crossbows and had six men imprisoned for drug dealing. I would say that he is definitely a man of his word.
For the record, Sergeant Morgan and his team had a drugs bust of £1 million pounds worth of Cannabis at a Rainham property last year, an incredible result.
“I’d like to think that I am a man of my word,’ tells us Mr Morgan. Clearly he is with the amazing results he has achieved in one year with a small team of five staff.
“My aim this year is to keep taking them out and going to the highest levels to stop them from bringing drugs onto our streets. We are going to keep plugging away and keep doing what we are doing.
“Our work is very much intelligence led. We have two thermal imagining cameras that we use to scan areas, although people are getting better at hiding places from us, I’d like to think that we are pretty much borderline experts now at what we do.
“It has been a very successful year and we need to build on this even more. We are going to keep upping our game each month, working with Neighbourhood Teams right across the area.
“I am also aiming to remove the bigger factories that need to be rooted out of our areas.”
Sergeant Morgan has a fantastic track record. He started the year with just three members of staff and averaged at least one warrant a month with more being done by the Neighbourhood Teams. Now, his team has grown to five members of staff and Mr Morgan is ready to take his work to the next level.
“I’d like to thank Det Superintendent Trevers for all the help he has given me and allowing me to have extra staff. It has been a team effort all round and without his support it would have been a lot harder.”
Sergeant Morgan also spends a lot of time working with low level drug dealers, trying to rehabilitate them away from the drugs world and into a better way of life.
“So many in the drugs factories are trafficked here just to work on drug farms. Many are victims and need help so we try and support them away from this lifestyle.”
Another promising year awaits Mr Morgan and his team. They really are totally committed to ridding our streets of drugs and imprisoning those who bring it into our country.
Well done Mr Morgan and team, you have achieved fantastic results.
