The Dagenham and Rainham MP Jon Cruddas has hit out at the most devastating cuts to social security since WW2.

Mr Cruddas writes:

Yesterday, the Tories have ushered in the most devastating cut to social security since the Second World War. 13,710 families across Dagenham and Rainham will lose £1,000 per year in Universal Credit payments, a heartless policy which will see 10,802 children pushed into poverty overnight. This move will also hit 5,513 working households in my constituency who rely on Universal Credit to top up their wages.

The retort from Tory Ministers that ‘if people need more money, they should get a better job’ is utterly shameful, especially given the state of the economy following their government’s poorly planned route map out of the pandemic. In the coming days, weeks, and months I will continue lobbying the Government to cancel the cut.
