Gale Street and Arden Crescent were closed this morning following reports of a man brandishing a firearm. The incident happened just before 8 am this morning as children made their way to school.

A Met police spokesperson told the Havering Daily:

“Police were called at approximately 07:51hrs on Friday, 23 April to reports of a man in possession of what was described as a firearm on Gale Street in Dagenham.

“Armed officers attended and road closures were put in place.

“A man, believed to be in his 20’s, was arrested for possession of an imitation firearm in a public place and taken into police custody.

“There were no reported injuries and police are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.”

Enquiries are ongoing and roads have now been reopened.
