Havering Police And Local Council To Host Drop In Session For Local Businesses To Sign Up to The Safe Haven Scheme.
On Wednesday 23 April Havering police alongside Havering Council will be available to chat with any local businesses that are interesting in signing up to the Safe Haven Scheme.
The event is being held at Harold Hill library from 1-3pm, where retailers will have the opportunity to chat with officers and council workers to gather more information on the scheme.
Safe Havens are a practical way for businesses to let people know that a form of support is easily available if they need help. Premises such as shops, cafes, pubs, libraries, and other places of interest can register to be officially known as a Safe Haven
Local police officers are looking to get the scheme up and running in response to concerns raised by the community of Harold Hill about people feeling unsafe in the area, following a few different incidents over the last couple of weeks.
This scheme was bought to officers’ attention by Harold Hill community champion Jan Sargent, where officers from there contacted Havering Council to see if they could all work together to get the Safe Haven Sceheme up and running

It really is about the community looking out for each other and ensuring that there are places people can seek help when they need it
Chief Inspector Charlie Routley told the Havering Daily:
“The Safe Haven scheme is something that we are working on setting up with Havering Council and the community of Harold Hill. It will mean there are places where people can go when they feel distressed, unsafe or just in need of help and assistance. This is not all about crime either. There may be occasions when someone needs assistance, feels unwell or sign posting on. It is a way to enable the community to support each other.
“Thank you to those who have already signed up online. The session on the 23rd is a chance to meet with the local police team and Havering Council to get more information about the scheme and sign up. This feeds directly into our ongoing “Our Harold Hill – Clear Hold Build” initiative and will hopefully help people feel safer in Harold Hill”.
Jan Sargent told the Havering Daily:
“As first highlighted on the Harold Hill Unleashed Facebook page, the businesses and people of Harold Hill are determined to work together to create ‘Safe Havens’ throughout the area.
Harold Hill has a very strong community, and I have no doubt that the scheme will have a positive impact.
I would like to thank Inspector Charlie Routley, Havering Council, the Heaton and Gooshays safer neighbourhood policing teams for their support in getting this up and running.”
