Over a hundred people have been made homeless or displaced due to the fire in Wennington on Tuesday 19 July. Families living on The Green have lost their homes following a fire on nearby grassland that rapidly spread due to the extreme heat.

Staff at Asda in Chadwell Heath and Dagenham were approached by community champion Mandy Slater asking if they could please help both the Dagenham and Wennington community who have lost all their belongings due to the horrendous fires.

Gemma at the Dagenham Asda told the Havering Daily: “We have provided over £5,000 worth of goods to the two communities that have been impacted by these awful fires.

“We have donated everything from clothing, footwear, bedding, shower gels, skin care products, food and anything else they have needed.

“Thanks to Peter Chand (former Mayor of Barking and Dagenham) who has been delivering as many items as he can to the two community hubs supporting the families.”

Lou from the Chadwell Heath Asda has also been supporting the families and told the Havering Daily: “The Asda foundation has given out £150 worth of essentials- everything from clothes, shoes, bedding, food.

“It really has been awful and it’s great that the community can come together to support each other.”

Well done Asda for stepping up to the mark and helping the local communities.
