An East Area officer is undergoing surgery after being violently attacked while doing his job.
A 19-year-old has been arrested and charged with Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH) after a police officer suffered a serious injury during an incident in Redbridge last week.
The officer, a member of the East Area Proactive Team, was involved in a foot chase when he was violently assaulted. The shocking incident resulted in the officer sustaining a severe break to his arm. He was rushed to hospital where he is currently undergoing surgery to repair the damage.
The suspect was swiftly arrested and has since been charged with GBH.
This brutal attack highlights the increasing dangers faced by police officers across London. Assaults on emergency service workers are becoming alarmingly common — and often, these assaults go unnoticed by the wider public.
As the officer recovers, support continues to pour in from across the policing community. It’s a sobering reminder of the risks our officers take every day simply by putting on the uniform.
