East Area Neighbourhood officers have recovered weapons and drugs at a residential address in Seven Kings after a stop and search undertaken in Barking last week.
Neighbourhoods Sergeant Joe Harrington said:“Acting on information from local PCSOs, officers from Barking Town Centre policing team stopped and searched a man suspected of drug offences on the afternoon of Wednesday, 28 February.
“During the search officers found images of a gun and ammunition. A search of the suspect’s address at Elgin Road, Ilford resulted in the recovery of a firearm, ammunition, bladed weapons and what we believe to be Class A drugs.”
A man, believed to be aged in his 30s, was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a firearm, ammunition and possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply.
He was taken to an east London police station and was subsequently released under investigation.
PS Harrington added: “This was an excellent example of the impact of local police teams and the positive use of police powers to take weapons and drugs off the streets.”
Enquiries are ongoing.
