An 82-year-old man from Harold Hill has been told to get rid of his two dogs or face eviction. John Bacon from Seven Oaks Close has two dogs Haze who is 15 years old and Tilly who is 3 years old. Now, Mr. Bacon has received a letter saying he has to get rid of his two dogs or he will be evicted.
John has lived at the Harold Hill property for 22 years and has never had any problems. Now, with the arrival of new tenants, John has been accused of not clearing up dog mess in the garden.
He told the Havering Daily: “I clean up every day, actually not only do I pick up my dogs’ mess but others as well. I have a special ‘poop a scooper’ that I use every day. I always keep the garden clean.”
Now because of these allegations, John is even too scared to allow his dogs out in the garden.
“I bring them to Rocky park every day to have a good run around as I’m too scared to let my dogs out in the garden. I clean up twice a day and now only allow my dogs to lie in the porch in case these people complain.”
John has been given 21 days to either get rid of his dogs or be evicted.
“I love my dogs, Haze has been with me for 15 years, she has a bad leg and is no trouble to anyone. Tilly is a happy dog that everyone loves, I would be lost without my dogs.”
Councillor Jan Sargent has been helping John resolve this awful situation. She told the Havering Daily: “I have known John for a number of years. He is a very friendly, likable person who loves to chat with everyone especially while on his daily dog walks through the parks of Harold Hill. You can clearly see that he absolutely dotes on his beloved dogs.
“The thought of John having to give up his best friends or lose his home to me is totally incomprehensible.
“Mr. Bacon has been in tears when describing how much stress and worry this is putting him through. How can this happen !! He quite often tells me of how his beloved companions have brought him so much comfort especially during the recent lockdown period.
“They are part of his family! To be honest I am really struggling to understand how an 82-year-old man who has lived in the same property for over 22 years with his dogs, both from pups have been sent such a letter. Surely problems can be resolved without getting to this stage.
I am currently awaiting a response from an email sent to the officer in question.”
