“One of the first duties of Government is to know who is in our country, who is arriving on our shores, and where new arrivals have come from,” said the Member of Parliament for Romford Andrew Rosindell MP. Concerns around border control and public safety continue to be raised by communities across the country, including in Romford.
Mr Rosindell, has spoken out following a horrendous rape of a 15 year old girl in Warwickshire involving two asylum seekers, which has prompted wider debate around security and migration policies.
Mr Rosindell told the Havering Daily:
“I believe the safety and confidence of local people must always come first. Our communities cannot feel fully secure if individuals are able to arrive and remain here unlawfully without proper checks on their identity or background.”
He added that stronger action is needed at a national level.
“If someone unknown entered one of our homes without permission, we would expect the law to be firmly on the side of the resident and for that individual to be removed. The same principle should apply at a national level.”
The incident in Warwickshire has led to renewed calls in some quarters for stricter checks and controls before individuals are allowed into communities.
Mr Rosindell also set out his party’s position on illegal migration, stating:
“Every migrant who has arrived here illegally has no right to be here and must be deported. Reform UK has pledged to do this. Residents in Romford, like communities across the country, deserve reassurance that their safety matters and that Parliament is prepared to act decisively to protect the integrity of our borders and the security of our neighbourhoods.”
The debate around migration and public safety remains ongoing, with differing views on how best to balance enforcement, fairness and community confidence.
