A Fond Farewell as Much Loved Harold Hill Family Florist Changes Hands After Nearly 50 Years

A much loved Harold Hill florist is saying an emotional farewell to a family who have been at the heart of the business for nearly five decades.

After 48 years in the Wallace family, Flowergirl Florist in Hilldene is entering a new chapter as the reins are handed over to Lucy Wallace, no relation, who will now lead the next phase of the shop’s journey.

For many in the community, Flowergirl Florist has been far more than just a shop. It has been a familiar and trusted part of life in Harold Hill, with generations of residents relying on its flowers for life’s most important moments.

Current owner Dan Wallace, alongside his wife Elaine, said the time felt right to pass the business on.

“The time feels right for new energy and ideas to take the business forward, and with Celina and Emma staying on I feel Lucy will have the perfect experience to take Flowergirl onto the next level.

“I would just like to thank all the fantastic staff that have passed through the doors for either myself or my late mother Val who first started the venture all those years ago and, of course, our wonderfully loyal customers who have stuck by us all these years.”

The florist was first established by Dan’s late mother Val, whose legacy has continued to bloom through the years, making the shop a cornerstone of the Hilldene community.

While the faces at the front may now be changing, there will still be a sense of continuity, with valued team members remaining as part of the business.

Following its move from the front of the Hilldene shopping centre last year, Flowergirl Florist is currently based in the Arcade on Farnham Road, where it will remain until the ongoing Hilldene regeneration project sees it relocated to new premises.

As one chapter closes and another begins, the community will no doubt feel the significance of this moment, saying goodbye to a family who have given so much to Harold Hill over the past 48 years, while welcoming a new owner ready to carry that legacy forward.

We wish Lucy the very best of luck as she takes Flowergirl Florist into its next chapter.
