Bird flu has been detected in the Harrow Lodge Park area, prompting Havering Council to issue advice to residents and park users. Havering’s parks team has confirmed it is working closely with DEFRA and warning notices have been placed around the park, urging visitors to take precautions to protect themselves, their pets and other birds following the discovery
The parks team has been in contact with DEFRA (Department for Environment, Foods and Rural Affairs) and notices have been put up around the park, asking park visitors to follow advice from the following:
- Keep to footpaths, with dogs on leads
- Do not pick up or touch sick or dead wild birds
- Do not touch wild bird feathers or surfaces contaminated with wild bird droppings
- If you keep poultry or other birds, wash your hands, and disinfect your footwear before tending to your birds
- If you find dead birds, report online or call the DEFRA helpline on 03459 33 55 77.
