Planting the Future: Havering London Begins Work on a Creative Climate Culture Manifesto

Back the Bid

The Havering Daily is today bringing you news on a new initiative that will see a Manifesto for Creative Climate Culture introduced to the borough.

Sarah Merry on behalf of Havering Climate Coalition today shares the following:

A groundbreaking new initiative is taking root in Havering, as the first session of Seeds of Change: Making Tomorrow took place on Monday 24th November. This programme marks the start of Havering London’s effort to develop a ‘Manifesto for Creative Climate Culture in Havering’, due to be published in Spring 2026.

Monday’s session, held at the historic Upminster Windmill, set the tone for this ambitious project. In a collaborative and welcoming environment, participants were invited to imagine a thriving, creative, climate-positive Havering in 2050—exploring what challenges might be “solved,” what achievements the community could be celebrating, and what sustainable practices might have become part of everyday life. They were also encouraged to identify their priorities for the manifesto, helping to shape the themes and issues that matter most to local people.

“I found it an interesting collaborative workshop and was happy to know so many things are happening in our borough, and to meet like-minded people who want a greener Havering.” — Laura, participant

“It was great to share my perspective and help shape Havering’s future.” – Sarah, participant

The Seeds of Change programme aims to explore how culture, creativity, and community imagination can help drive health, wellbeing and environmental awareness and action at a local level.

Local residents are invited to join two further sessions planned for early 2026—one online and one in-person at a venue to be confirmed. These workshops will continue to shape the manifesto and ensure that the voices of people across Havering are at its heart.
