Romford MP Slams Northern Ireland Troubles Bill As A Betrayal Of Our Armed Forces.

My colleagues and I, especially those who have served in the past, will not stand by while Labour appeases the enemies of the United Kingdom. Our Armed Forces are the greatest in the world, and they deserve respect and gratitude, not betrayal.

The Member of Parliament for Romford-Andrew Rosindell MP, today writes on the latest Northern Ireland Troubles Bill.

Only a week ago, we stood united as a nation to honour those who gave everything for King and Country. Yet, this government now brings forward legislation that undermines the very men and women who served with courage during the most challenging times of our recent history.

The Northern Ireland Troubles Bill is a political manoeuvre dressed up as justice. It betrays our Armed Forces, insults the memory of innocent victims of IRA terrorism, and risks opening the door to endless, vexatious litigation against soldiers whose only crime was to serve their country. Meanwhile, those responsible for atrocities sit in positions of power with pardons in their pockets.

This is hypocrisy at its worst, and instead of delivering justice for victims of terrorism, including those harmed by Libyan-sponsored IRA attacks, the government seeks to put our soldiers in the dock. That is a national disgrace.

Back in 2005, I challenged then Prime Minister, Tony Blair, on a matter of a similar nature when servicemen faced prosecution while our troops were fighting in Iraq, meanwhile IRA murderers were being pardoned and seeing themselves elected in parliaments in Northern Ireland, The Republic of Ireland, and the European Union. It was a disgrace then, and it remains a disgrace now.

My colleagues and I, especially those who have served in the past, will not stand by while Labour appeases the enemies of the United Kingdom. Our Armed Forces are the greatest in the world, and they deserve respect and gratitude, not betrayal.
