Last month we reported the story of a local man who decided to run the London Marathon for the first time, in aid of Rainbow Trust. We are pleased to say, that Darren Gildersleeve completed the course and was able to raise a fair amount of money for the charity in the process.
Darren, filled with pride, reflects on his incredible journey running the London Marathon for Rainbow Trust, a charity close to his heart. Among thousands of applicants, he secured a spot to support families facing tough times. Darren told the Havering Daily…
“Running over Tower Bridge was absolutely indescribable; it felt like a dream. And when I hit mile 26, seeing my family there, including my wife Anne, cheering me on, I couldn’t hold back the tears. Sure, I hit a rough patch with a stitch around mile 20, but thinking about all the amazing people who sponsored me and the love of my family helped me power through.
Rainbow Trust’s stories really hit home for me. Knowing they’re out there, providing both financial and emotional support to families facing unimaginable challenges, it’s truly inspiring. Meeting the Rainbow Trust team at the finish line was a moment I’ll never forget. It reignited my passion for charity work and has me eager to do even more in the future.
Looking back on the marathon, yeah, I’m tired, but I’ve never felt more proud. Every single donor who supported me, even on those cold, dark training mornings, you all kept me going. My journey, fueled by purpose and gratitude, is a reminder of the incredible impact we can make when we run for something bigger than ourselves.”
