Havering Sports Council finalist to be honoured at annual sports awards.


Havering Sports Council have announced the finalists to be honoured at their annual Sports Awards Presentation Buffet, to be held at Upminster Golf Club on Monday 7th February, in the presence of His Worshipful The Mayor of Havering Councillor John Mylod, commencing at 7.30pm. 

From nominations, two finalists have been chosen in each category, with winners announced on the night by long-standing Master of Ceremonies John Whitby.  The event, sponsored by BATS of Ilford, rewards excellence during 2021 and is the highlight of the Borough’s sporting year. 

Finalists (in alphabetical order) are :
. JUNIOR SPORTS COMPETITOR-OF-THE-YEAR (Sponsor – West & Coe Funeral Directors) : Athlete Stephanie Okoro & Footballer Lenny O’Sullivan. 

SPORTS COMPETITOR-OF-THE-YEAR (Sponsor – MDS Printers Ltd of Upminster) : Athlete Jason Lendon & Triathlete Jon Warren.

 DISABILITY-SPORTS COMPETITOR-OF-THE YEAR (Sponsor – The Beadle Family) : Tennis player and cricketer Oliver Beadle & athlete Rebecca O’Rourke.

 SPORTS VOLUNTEER-OF-THE-YEAR (Sponsor – Cllr. John Mylod) : Athletics and ice Hockey official and supporter KATIE ENNIS & Swimming Official Angela Eguakhide.

 SPORTS CLUB-OF-THE-YEAR (Sponsor –  Moments of Memory Photography) : Hornchurch Football Club and Tigers Junior Football Club.

 In addition are 2 awards for Schools : SENIOR SCHOOL SPORTS TEAM-OF-THE-YEAR (Sponsor – Brentwood M & E Services Ltd)  and PRIMARY SCHOOL TEAM-OF-THE-YEAR (Sponsor Cllr. Melvin Wallace), at which winners are to be announced on the night.

 The Borough’s top award – THE DOUG RIDEN LIIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD (Sponsor – McDonalds Restaurants of Romford) is presented annually in memory of former Havering Sports Council President Dour Riden who passed on in 2002.  It goes to a Havering resident who had given outstanding meritorious service to local sport for a minimum of 15 years.  This also is announced on the night.
