Nominations for Havering Small Business Awards 2021/22 now open.

It is time to name the borough’s favourite small local businesses in the Havering Small Business Awards 2021/22, as nominations are now open.

The first annual Havering Small Business Awards is a community-led event giving residents the chance to show some love for the small and independent businesses across the borough that continue to serve their communities.

The awards, which are run by Havering Council, are split into 10 categoriesrepresenting the wide range of small businesses in Havering. These categories are:

  • Best Small or Independent Business
  • Best Beauty or Service Business
  • Best Take Away
  • Best Hospitality Business
  • Best Tradesperson
  • Best Customer Experience
  • Best Shopfront
  • Best Social Enterprise or CIC
  • Best Newcomer (less than a year old)
  • The Havering Small Business of the Year Award.

The first nine categories are open to nominations from all residents, with the final award, the ‘Havering Small Business of the Year’ chosen from the winners of the other awards by a panel made up of the Council and sponsors.

Nominations will close on Sunday 30 January, giving Havering residents just under two weeks to shine a spotlight on their favourite businesses for each of the categories above. Nominations can be made through the Havering Council website and only take a couple of minutes, making it easy to name those businesses that go above and beyond.

Visit www.havering.gov.uk/smallbusinessawards to nominate a small business, or find more information on each category.

The businesses that receive the most nominations for each category will go through to the final round, where the public can vote for the winner in online polls. The winners will then be announced at a special evening reception in March.

Councillor Damian White, Leader of Havering Council, said:

“These awards are our chance to recognise the many shining examples of small businesses in our great borough, especially as they have been experiencing some tough times recently.

“Whether it’s your local chip shop that always serves the best fish and chips, that small boutique you couldn’t live without, or a tradesperson who is always on-call if you need them, this is your chance to show these businesses what they mean to you – and to Havering.

“These awards are community-led, so it’s up to you, the people of Havering, to come forward and tell us the businesses that deserve these awards.”

The Council would not be able to run these awards without the support of its sponsors. The Romford Business Improvement District (BID) are key sponsor for the awards, with categories sponsored or supported by Wates Residential, Hills Prospect, The Havering Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and Marlborough Highways.
