A special vigil is being held by the local community next Friday 12 of November in honour of the 88 year old pensioner who sadly died in a house fire in Harold Wood last week.
Mrs Josephine Smith, known locally as Josie, was sleeping when a fire broke out on the ground floor of a house on Queen’s Park Road. The incident took place last Thursday 28 of October, firefighters were able to rescue Mrs Smith who was on the floor above but sadly she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her death has left the community shocked and saddened by what has happened as she was a very much loved and respected member of the community who had lived all her life in Harold Wood.
Now, in her honour a special go fund me page has been launched and a vigil set up for the community to come and pay their respects to Josie.
The event is being organised by local resident Monica, who is a friend of the family.
Monica told the Havering Daily:
“Please let us show Josie’s family that we are a community here. Her family are truly devastated by what has happened and I cannot even begin to think what they must be going through.
“I am starting a collection to get a special wreath for her send off and show her family just how loved she was.”
Monica would like to thank Emma at florist Blooming Occasions in Harold Hill who has kindly agreed to match every penny raised and make a beautiful wreath in honour of Josie.
Well done Emma for being a real local champion and Monica for being a big hearted community member who is uniting the local community to show solidarity for Josie’s family during these very difficult times.
