The Liberty celebrate young Havering superheroes.
The Liberty recently welcomed four young local heroes, to celebrate their amazing work and commitment to the local community throughout the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic last year.
During 2020, The Liberty held a promotion inviting the community to put forward young people in Havering to find and celebrate local Havering heroes. Tiana Williamson, 8, Joshua Neale, 13, Molly Dickinson, 21 and Jasmine Portway 21, were all selected as The Liberty’s heroes after going above and beyond to help others in their community during tough lockdown periods.
Last year. The Liberty teamed up with The Jack Petchey Foundation who brought The Liberty’s attention to some of the amazing young heroes from the local area who have received a Jack Petchey community award.
Jack Petchey Community Award is an award scheme launched by the Jack Petchey foundation during the first lockdown to recognize young people from London and Essex who are helping their community during the coronavirus outbreak.
Tiana Williamson, was only age 6 when she began, kindly recording videos of herself for fellow children, including storytelling and activities such as arts and crafts and fitness top tips, to keep other children occupied, who were missing their friends during lockdown, while Joshua Neale helped raise funds for the NHS by baking, which he also delivered safely to NHS staff members at Queen’s Hospital in Romford.
Molly Dickinson was selected for her selfless volunteering at Saint Francis Hospice, where she devoted her time on the patient ward for up to eight shifts a week. Performance Design student Jasmine Portway was also selected for lending her skills to the charity ‘For The Love of Scrubs’, where she sewed scrubs for Queens and King George’s Hospitals.
The art installation includes the four youngsters transformed into cartoon superheroes. The colourful cartoon design represents the real-lifeheroes that they are today. The installation is also the backdrop for the centre’s superhero themed summer activity, which is taking place during the summer holidays until 29th August.
Centre Manager at The Liberty Shopping Centre, Simon Plumb commented: “We were delighted to welcome Tiana, Joshua, Molly and Jasmine to the centre.
“It is great to be able to recognise these young people’s selfless acts of kindness during such a tough time and we would like to thank them for everything that they did and continue to do for our local community.”
