Council seeks the views of residents to help combat anti social behaviour.
Barking and Dagenham Council has launched aconsultation to get the thoughts of residents as it looks to renew a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) on Dagenham Heathway.
PSPOs aim to change behaviours, increase civic pride and ultimately deal with any antisocial behaviour taking place in a particular area.
The Heathway PSPO currently prohibits the following activities:
- Drinking alcohol in a public place
- Public urination
- Spitting
- Begging
- Groups engaging in behaviour which causes residents and other users of the area nuisance, annoyance, harassment, alarm, or distress.
And the east London council is consulting to see if it should be extended for a further three years.
Since the PSPO was introduced in 2018 and up until December 2020, there were 389 PSPO breaches and 19 alcohol seizures.
Councillor Margaret Mullane, Cabinet Member for Enforcement and Community Safety said: “PSPOs play a huge part in our battle against antisocial behaviour and allow our officers to put a stop to unsightly issues such spitting, drinking alcohol or harassing others.
“I hope residents understand the importance of PSPOs and take the time to complete the consultation.”
The consultation is now live on the council’sconsultation portal and will be open until Monday 19 July.
