Local councillors lay wreaths to celebrate 100 Birthday of the Royal British Legion.

Local councillors in Elm Park marked the 100 birthday of the Royal British Legion on Saturday. The Royal British Legion was founded by Earl Haig and Fred Lister as an ex service organisation for the ‘common cause’.

To mark the occasion all branches were asked to lay a wreath at 9am on Saturday. Councillors Stephanie Nunn and Barry Mugglestone joined veterans and clergy to lay their wreath.

Chairman of the Royal British Legion, Councillor Mugglestone was joined on Saturday by Reverend Amanda Keighley and Father Tom Keeley, the two branch vice presidents. Joanne White the Poppy Appeal Organiser, Councillor Stephanie Nunn and a small group of members from the branch.

Councillor Nunn told the Havering Daily: “I was pleased to attend a short wreath laying service on Saturday 15th of May at the Elm Park Royal British Legion to celebrate the 100th Birthday of the British Legion. i am part of the welfare team who make visits and phone calls and truly believe in the RBL motto , ‘service not sell’.
