BREAKING: 200 Asylum seekers to be housed in Palms Hotel this week. Council leader and Romford MP in bid to change location due to overstretched resources in Havering.

Palms Hotel along the A127 in Hornchurch has been chosen by an agency working for the Home Office to house 200 asylum seekers.

Havering Council were informed on Thursday last week on the decision to house the 200 asylum seekers here in Havering starting from this week.

Councillor Damian White Leader of the Council told the Havering Daily: “As soon as we were informed on the decision to house the asylum seekers here we launched a campaign to ask the Home Office to find a more suitable and appropriate location for them.”

Both Councillor White and the Romford MP Andrew Rosindell have written to the Home Secretary Priti Patel MP asking her to reconsider her decision and find a more suitable location for the asylum seekers.

The Romford MP Andrew Rosindell writes in his letter: “The Havering Council and communities are already being overstretched by the difficulty of combatting the Covid 19 pandemic and I am concerned that the additional costs and resources required for the demands of 200 asylum seekers in the borough could result in worse outcomes for local people.“

Councillor White writes: “Havering Council has been on the frontline on the fight against Covid 19. We have the oldest population in London and have one of the highest volumes of care homes in the capital. The resources essential to that fight, added to the significant lost of income to the Council as a result of the lockdown, already far outweighs the financial support provided by the Government thus far. We are already working at pace under extreme circumstances.”

Both the Council and the Romford MP are concerned for the residents in this borough due to overstretched health services and social care.

They hope the Home Office will now find a more suitable location for the 200 asylum seekers.

The crime rate in Havering is already high, with Eastern European’s driving around the Borough during the night/early morning stealing cars and breaking into houses. Doctors and Schools at breaking point. What are the government thinking of, housing these people. They should be returned to France and ultimately their Country of Origin. We are trying to overcome this virus. Two hundred migrants housed together is madness.

If Priti had stopped them entering the UK, as she said she would, then this problem of finding them somewhere to live would not have arisen. Well done Priti for pretending to care for the U,K and then ,once you are elected, not giving a damn.

Just shows you how deceitful the government is by not even notifying their conservative M P . So underhand , which is the way they operate . . When are we going to stop being a ” soft touch ” with ilegal migrants . It’s been happening for years and years and nothing changes . More and more weak government . This country has the highest population per persons per kilometre , than any of our European neighbours . We are being swamped by overpopulation and unacceptable housing demands .. Civil war is looming , when governments , don’t even respect their own people .
