Deer’s Rest manager donates boxes of food to Harold Hill Foodbank.

The manager of the Deer’s Rest pub in Harold Hill has donated boxes of food to support the local foodbank.

Russell, the manager and volunteer Grant along with the help of Councillor Jan Sargent from Gooshays ward, loaded their vehicles with boxes of crisps, nuts and cartons of fizzy drinks and juices to donate to the nearby Harold Hill foodbank.

Russell told the Havering Daily:These are tough times and we have to help our community and do what we can. It’s good to help each other. This food was just sitting there and instead of it going out of date I wanted to do something with it to help others.

Last week I handed some over to the staff at Queen’s hospital and this week we are donating it all to the Harold Hill Foodbank.”

The team loaded boxes of food in their vehicles and handed them over to the foodbank who were very pleased.

Councillor Jan Sargent told the Havering Daily: “I would personally like to thank Russell. I must admit I’m not that surprised at Russell’s offer of help as from the first day of taking on the former Bear Public House in Noak Hill, he has always proven himself to be a real community spirit guy.

Nothing is ever too much trouble for him, he is always willing to help others and I can’t praise him enough. H has used this lockdown period to make vast improvements to the pub and I’m sure many like myself are looking forward to when we can sit outside and enjoy a drink in that beautiful beer garden he has been working so hard on.”

Well done Russell, another Havering hero!
