Principal runs marathon for Jodie.

Havering Colleges Principal Paul Wakeling completed the Lenham Cross Winter Marathon in Kent on Sunday, 23rd February, in memory of Sixth Form student Jodie Chesney, who was brutally murdered on 1st March 2019.

The tough course – up and down hills and forest trails in the wind and rain – involved 27.5 miles and 4,300ft of elevation. Paul was limping around college for the following couple of days!

Jodie’s tragic death, which was an unprovoked attack, sent shockwaves through the college and the country as a whole. Due to the horrific nature of her murder, and subsequent deaths around the country relating to knife crime, Jodie’s father set up a charity in Jodie’s name – The Jodie Chesney Foundation – with the help of a team of experienced youth services professionals.

The charity aims to make a difference to the culture of knife crime in this country and Paul ran the marathon to raise money for the cause.

He said: “Jodie was a kind and giving person and is greatly missed.”
