Mercury shopping centre raises more than £2,800 for local charities
It’s been a busy few weeks for Santa and his team of elves at The Mercury shopping centre, Santa’s Grotto raised £2000 for local charities Saint Francis Hospice & First Step, led by Santa’s helper Ian Courtier, the grotto is Romford’s oldest running grotto for over fifteen years.
The Christmas charity wrapping week saw a fantastic combined total of over £800 raised for different charities which included; ssafa, London City Mission Bethel Food Bank, Blesma, Tommy’s and Saint Francis Hospice with local shoppers digging deep into their pockets in exchange for their festive purchases to be lovingly gift wrapped.
Centre Manager Spencer Hawken said:
“We’re so grateful to our shoppers for their generosity and support during the busy Christmas period, proving, once again, just how generous our shoppers can be.”
Around 400 gifts were donated from our customers from 13th November – 22nd December. The Mercury’s helpdesk was the drop-off point for Women’s Aid Havering.
They run 2 premises in havering, one in Romford, the other in Hornchurch. They supply specialist assistance to male and female victims of domestic abuse whether it be physical, emotional, sexual, financial or elder abuse. They are currently housing around 14 families in our borough, with around 30 children.
We handed over the donated gifts on 23rd December to Kerry Sellers, who is the Domestic Abuse Support Worker for Havering area, a huge thank you to all our generous shoppers from The Mercury.
