VIDEO: ‘Tonight the nation has decided, the time to debate is over and now is the time to move forward.’

The Hornchurch and Upminster seat was won in the early hours of the morning with an incredible 35, 000 votes by the standing MP Julia Lopez.

Mrs Lopez had given birth just a week before the election was announced and was at the count last night her baby daughter Isabel.

In her winning speech Mrs Lopez said:

Tonight has been a decisive moment and a time to move forward.

I’d like to thank my opponents, it has not been a nasty campaign in this constituency and I really appreciate that particularly given my circumstances having just had a baby.

It takes a lot of courage to stand in an election and I’m really glad the electorate had a proper choice in this election.

I’d like to thank the residents who have backed me for a second time and have done so decisively. It is a true honour to serve you and i’m very excited by everything we can do together.

I gave birth one week before the election was called so I wasn’t as active as I could have been.

This is the world’s greatest democracy and tonight the nation has decided the time to debate is over and now is the time to move forward.”
