BREAKING: Man arrested on suspicion of arson and going equipped following fire in Rainham.


Following the news of the fire in New Road, Rainham in the early hours of the morning, police were also on scene after reports of a man acting suspiciously seen in the near by vicinity.

It is now believed that a man in his 30’s has been arrested on suspicion of arson, going equipped and public order offences.

A spokesperson for the police told the Havering Daily:

Police were called at 00:58hrs on Tuesday, 26 November to reports of a fire at a property at New Road, Rainham.

Officers and the London Fire Brigade attended.

Safety cordons and road closures were put in place as a precaution while firefighters worked to extinguish the fire.
Enquiries are ongoing to establish the cause of the fire.

A man who was seen nearby acting suspiciously was stopped and searched by officers.

The man, aged in his 30’s, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of going equipped. He was further arrested on suspicion of arson and public order.

He has been taken to an east London hospital for assessment for injuries that are believed to be self-inflicted.
