Catch me if you ‘Dan’

Members of The Liberty Shopping Centre team have given up their lunch breaks for two weeks to run the shops and raise money for Haven House and Cancer Research UK.

Staff of The Liberty in Romford worked in some of the centre’s stores during their lunch break including Waterstones, Claire’s, Hotel Chocolat and Krispy Kreme. Each member worked for a standard hourly rate in order to raise funds for Office Manager Daniel Bade, who ran the Havering Half Marathon in 1 hour and 40 minutes for Haven House and Cancer Research UK, the shopping centre’s chosen charities of the year.

Volunteers included The Liberty Centre Management Team and Security. Taking on various retail roles throughout the two-week period, staff gave up their time in order to raise awareness and funds for the pair of well deserving charities.

Manager of Dizzy Fashion, Justine Lloyd commented, ‘It was wonderful to have a member of the management team lending us a hand and join us in-store. It was for two great charities and we were more than happy to give it our full support.’

Haven House Children’s hospice provides palliative and holistic care services for babies, children and young people who have life-limiting and life-threatening conditions. The charity also provides support for their families and communities across North and North East London, Essex and East Hertfordshire.

Cancer Research UK is the only charity fighting over 200 types of cancer, receiving no government funding for it’s life-saving research. The charity supports scientific study with the vision of developing a future where all cancers can be cured.

Jonathan Poole, Centre Manager said of the fundraising events:

We are dedicated in our support for Haven House and Cancer Research UK. The centre has chosen to fundraise for these charities this year because of the great impact they have on the local community and at a national level.

Daniel trained extremely hard for the half marathon and finished with a fantastic time, coming 104th out of 1,015 participants.’
